How to choose a TV bench that’s right for your home

You can’t go wrong when you pick from the IKEA range of TV benches. They’re all built sturdily for your peace of mind and feature a hole or a gap at the back for easy cable management. But there are lots to choose from, so here are a few ideas on how to find the TV bench that’s perfect for you.

How wide should your TV bench be?

IKEA home furnishing specialists recommend that your TV bench is wider than your TV screen. This reduces the risk that someone bumps into the TV accidentally and tips it over. A wider bench also looks more balanced visually. IKEA TV benches range in width from 90 cm up to 240 cm.

How high should your TV bench be?

IKEA TV benches range from 36 cm up to 81 cm in height. To avoid neck strain, the centre of your TV should be at eye level when you sit in your usual seat. This can guide you to a TV bench at the right height for your screen. If your TV is wall-mounted, you may want a smaller TV stand just to store essentials.

Closed storage, open storage – or both?

If the TV is part of an entertainment system, you can hide away all the devices and accessories in a TV bench with doors – or proudly display them in an open-shelved unit. For the best of all worlds, you can choose a TV bench that has both open shelving and closed storage with doors and/or drawers.

You can surround your TV with framed artwork and then it blends in to this ‘picture wall’ – so the screen is less of a focal point when switched off.
