Softer by every night
With DYTÅG, we wanted to bring out the very best in linen. So, we learned everything about fibre lengths, weaving techniques and how to best wash the fabric. The result is a series of bedding that feels soft and smooth against the skin already the first time you lie down on the sheet, rest your head on the pillow and pull up the cover.
Linen is a fantastic material. Especially when you have it close to the body. ”It has the ability to wick away moisture, and feels cool when you are hot and warms you up when you are cold,” explains Elias Karlsson, who’s an expert in textiles and was involved in the development of DYTÅG. “In addition, linen is durable and just gets softer and more beautiful the more you use, wash and love your sheets.”
How to achieve a softer feel
We have had linen sheets in our range for quite a long time. But when customers told us they wanted softer sheets, we took a closer look at the linen material and factors that affect the experience of it. The fibre length plays an important role for the softness, and that’s why we chose a quality with long fibres that are twined together. Elias and the team also tried different weaving techniques and thread counts to get exactly the right feel. “Then we washed the samples to find the right softness, and by slightly shrinking the linen, we got a denser fabric”.
A bed to long for
Linen is made of plant fibres from the flax plant and is one of the most hard-wearing textiles there is. The cultivation requires significantly less water than many other plants, and since the whole flax plant can be used, very little is wasted. “When you deep dive into a natural material like we did, you get great respect for it. It’s the fibres that decide, and we can only adapt to them to achieve the quality we want,” says Elias and adds: “I hope everyone that sees DYTÅG feels: I want to sleep in that.”

What is flax?
Already thousands of years ago, humans discovered how the fibre in the flax plant’s stem can be treated, spun and woven into a durable linen fabric. Even today, flax is appreciated for its many qualities. For example, it has very good absorbency that makes it particularly great for kitchen towels. The flax fibre’s smooth surface gives bed linens a comfortable and cooling feel, but flax can also be mixed with cotton to get a slightly softer textile.
