How it works

We've partnered with The Mattress Recycling People to collect and recycle your old mattresses.

  • Book a recycling slot for your mattress for just £40 per item using code: IKEA2023 (some additional fees may apply, please see the full list below).
  • The delivery team will come and collect your old mattress from you at your chosen time and date

By clicking on the link above, you will be taken to a third-party website operated by The Mattress Recycling People, who are a separate company to IKEA. Orders placed through the third-party website are based on an agreement between The Mattress Recycling People and you (the customer), subject to The Mattress Recycling People terms and conditions. To avoid doubt, mattress recycling is not a service by IKEA.

Good-to-know basics

  • Mattresses will only be accepted in a ready-to-collect condition and must not be damp or wet (e.g. left outside)
  • Mattresses should be near the front door to be easily bagged and collected by the collection team. Collection from a room is available for an additional fee.

How is your mattress recycled?

When the delivery team collects your old mattress or bed, it's transported to a dedicated mattress recycling centre. The mattresses are assessed then fed into process lines and dismantled into 19 different components (depending on the type of mattress).

Those components are then segregated, sanitised and processed:

  • Steel springs are baled up ready to be recycled into new products
  • Textiles are blended and baled ready for transferring onto industry as raw products for further processing
  • Foam pads are reprocessed into new products in our warehouses
  • All the materials are then used in newly manufactured products.
